Dangerous driver admits seriously injuring woman in Gillingham

A dangerous driver who seriously injured a woman in Gillingham has been remanded in custody after admitting the offence. Daniel Richards, 34 and of Selbourne Road in Gillingham, hit the victim while she was walking on the pavement in Napier Road at around 10.50am on Saturday 4 May 2019. He left the scene of the collision before the arrival of the emergency services and was arrested at around 1.40am on Monday 6 May 2019. He was subsequently charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving and pleaded guilty to the offence during a remand hearing at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 7 May 2019. At the hearing he was further remanded in custody and will appear for sentence at Maidstone Crown Court on a date that is to be determined. A 32-year-old woman from Gillingham was also arrested in connection with the collision and she has been bailed, pending further enquiries, until 30 May. The injured woman, who is in her 40s, sustained a serious back injury and remains in hospital in a stable condition.
