Dangerous Driver Hits Woman in Gillingham – Now in Custody
A reckless driver who seriously injured a woman walking in Gillingham is behind bars after admitting his crime.
Daniel Richards Leaves Victim Injured and Flees Scene
Daniel Richards, 34, of Selbourne Road, smashed into a woman on the pavement of Napier Road at around 10:50am on Saturday 4 May 2019. The victim, a local woman in her 40s, suffered serious back injuries.
Richards didn’t stop. He fled the scene before emergency services arrived.
Arrest and Court Appearance
Police arrested Richards early on Monday 6 May at 1:40am. He was charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving and appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 7 May, where he pleaded guilty.
He was remanded in custody and will face sentencing at Maidstone Crown Court on a date yet to be set.
Related Arrest and Hospital Update
A 32-year-old Gillingham woman was also arrested in connection with the crash. She has been bailed until 30 May while police continue their enquiries.
The injured woman remains in hospital in a stable condition as she recovers from her serious injuries.
