An Irish woman has died following an incident at a home in Melbourne, Australia, with a 45-year-old man charged with her murder.
Annmarie O’Reilly, 30, originally from Co Tipperary, was found injured at a property on Ferntree Gully Road in the Melbourne suburb of Ferntree Gully on Friday.
Emergency services were called to the address shortly before 10am.
Despite attempts to revive Ms O’Reilly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Man charged with murder
A 45-year-old man was arrested nearby following the discovery and taken into police custody.
Victoria Police subsequently charged him with murder.
He appeared before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court via video link on Saturday and was remanded in custody.
He is due to appear before the court again on 23 February next year.
Police have said the man and Ms O’Reilly were known to each other.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death are continuing.
Brother pays heartbreaking tribute
Ms O’Reilly’s brother, Jimmy, has paid tribute to his sister following her death, describing her as “the nicest woman you’d meet” and “the best mother to her kids.”
News of her death has prompted shock and sadness among those who knew her in Ireland and Australia.
Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance.
The department said it does not comment on the details of individual consular cases.
Victoria Police’s investigation into Ms O’Reilly’s death remains ongoing while the man charged with her murder remains in custody awaiting his next court appearance.
