Detectives investigating East Grinstead attacks keeping an open mind

Detectives investigating the assaults of two men in East Grinstead on Tuesday (April 14) are keeping an open mind as to the cause of the injuries that they sustained.

Police were called to Moat Road in the town at 1.33pm where one man had suffered an injury to his mouth and another a serious head injury. The latter was airlifted to hospital where his condition on Monday evening was understood not to be life-threatening. The other man was taken to hospital for treatment by road. Both were conscious and breathing when they left the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Emma Vickers said: “We are aware that initial reports suggested that a gun may have been involved and we are awaiting further information about the nature of the injuries and witness statements to establish whether that was the case.

“Up to four people left the scene in a grey Fiat 500 and enquiries are now under way to establish their identities and the location of that vehicle. We believe that this incident was confined to these six individuals.

“Anyone with information about the incident is asked to report online or call 101 quoting Operation Deerhurst.”
