Chaos struck the A350 in Chippenham early Friday morning when a loaded lorry flipped onto its side, spilling wood chips across the road.
HGV Crash in the Early Hours
The single-vehicle crash involved a heavy goods vehicle packed with wood chips. Emergency services rushed to the scene after the lorry toppled over, blocking the major route.
Driver Held for Drug Driving
The 44-year-old driver, Michael Maddick from Portmead, Swansea, was arrested at the scene following assessment by an ambulance crew. He was cleared medically but charged with driving while unfit through drug use.
“Michael Maddick, 44, of Portmead, Swansea, has been charged with driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs. He has been released on bail and is due to appear at Swindon Magistrates Court on November 4.” – Wiltshire Police spokesperson
Maddick is currently out on bail and will face the magistrates next month as investigations continue.
