A Liverpool man has been hit with a hefty punishment after flooding social media with racist, homophobic, and transphobic abuse. Francis Fleming, 44, has been handed a three-year football banning order following his conviction for a string of nasty posts.
Convicted for Multiple Malicious Communications
Fleming appeared at Sefton Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 19 March. He pleaded guilty to ten offences under Section 127 of the Communications Act 2003. His offensive posts, mostly linked to football, spanned from 2023 into 2024. Everton FC flagged his activities after spotting his vile comments online.
Police Send Strong Message to Online Haters
Alongside community orders and fines, Fleming must stay away from football matches for three years. Detective Constable Tom Sharrocks spoke out:
“I hope this result shows that people can’t hide behind their social media accounts and post racist, homophobic and transphobic comments online. This will never be accepted.”
He added:
“It’s pleasing that Fleming is now subjected to a three-year football banning order for his appalling behaviour. Merseyside Police will keep working with local clubs and the Kick It Out campaign to crack down on hate crimes, whether inside the stadium or online.”
DC Sharrocks finished with a warning:
“I hope this sends a clear message and acts as a deterrent. We will prosecute anyone who behaves in such a deplorable way.”
