A former Greater Manchester Police officer has been jailed for three years after forming a relationship with a member of an organised Crime group and using her position to provide him with confidential policing information.
Former PC Tubah Hamid, 25, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on Wednesday, 16 September, following an investigation carried out by GMP’s Anti-Corruption Unit under the direction of the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
The court heard that Hamid was in a relationship with a man linked to a criminal network involved in the supply of Class A drugs.
Investigators established that between December 2021 and June 2022 she shared confidential police intelligence with him without lawful justification, including information intended to help him avoid detection or surveillance.
An examination of Hamid’s use of police systems also revealed that she had searched for four people between October 2021 and March 2022 without an apparent legitimate policing purpose.
Officer seen meeting man after calling in sick
While Hamid was under investigation in June 2022, she was observed getting into a vehicle with the man despite having reported sick from work.
Another man subsequently approached the vehicle and officers later recovered cocaine from him.
Hamid was sentenced to three years in prison for misconduct in public office.
She was also handed concurrent four-month sentences for computer misuse and illegal prison communications.
Following the sentencing, IOPC Director of Engagement Amanda Rowe described Hamid’s conduct as “audacious, corrupt and criminal”.
She said the former officer’s use of her position to assist criminal activity represented “a complete betrayal of the public’s trust”.
