David Connolly, 61, of Norwood Hill Road in Charlwood, Surrey, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for rape and other serious sexual offences against a girl under 15 years of age in Crowborough.
Connolly, a former Kent Police officer, committed these offences between 1998 and 2000. His victim, known to him, reported the allegations to Sussex Police in August 2020, after Connolly had retired from policing. The victim, now in her 30s, was supported by specialist officers throughout the investigation.
Detective Constable Katrina Davies praised the victim’s bravery, stating, “David Connolly subjected a young girl to repeated, appalling sexual abuse. The victim has had to grow up with the trauma of that abuse, which makes her bravery in reporting Connolly to the police all the more remarkable. Thanks to her, an extremely disturbing individual is now safely behind bars.”
Detective Superintendent Andy Harbour emphasized the importance of reporting sexual offences, regardless of when they occurred. “We want victims of sexual offences to feel confident reporting to Sussex Police, knowing they will be supported and that we will do all we can to get them justice.
