Ex-Cop Jailed for 11 Years Over Shocking Child Sex Abuse Case

Former Kent Officer Convicted for Abuse in Crowborough

David Connolly, 61, from Charlwood, Surrey, was sentenced to 11 years behind bars for horrific sexual offences against a girl under 15 in Crowborough. The retired Kent Police officer committed the crimes between 1998 and 2000.

The victim, now in her 30s, bravely came forward in August 2020 after Connolly had already left the police force. She was supported by specialist officers throughout the investigation by Sussex Police.

Multiple Charges and Disturbing Details

  • Three counts of rape of a girl under 16
  • Two counts of gross indecency with a girl under 14
  • Six counts of indecent assault on a girl under 16

The abuse happened at Connolly’s home and in his car, as revealed during the probe. He was arrested in January 2024 and found guilty at Brighton Crown Court on 24 October. Sentencing took place on 28 January.

Police Praise Victim’s Courage

“David Connolly subjected a young girl to repeated, appalling sexual abuse. The victim has had to live with that trauma but showed remarkable bravery in reporting him,” said Detective Constable Katrina Davies. “Thanks to her courage, a very disturbing individual is now behind bars.”

Detective Superintendent Andy Harbour added, “We want victims to feel confident reporting sexual offences to Sussex Police, no matter how long ago they happened. We will listen and work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice.”
