Great Western Railway Train Manager Jailed for Seven Years for Sexually Assaulting Passenger

A Great Western Railway (GWR) train manager has been sentenced to seven years in prison after sexually assaulting an 18-year-old female passenger while checking her ticket. Nicholas McMurray, 38, attacked the young woman on June 22, 2024, as she stood in the vestibule area of the train shortly before it arrived in Swansea.

Predatory Attack on a Passenger

He continued to restrain her until the train reached the station, making sexually explicit comments and touching her again as she tried to leave. "McMurray completely abused his position and took advantage of this young woman. When arrested, he lied to officers, claiming the victim had tried to kiss him and that he had pushed her away. His lies continued during the interview, where he falsely claimed the victim had consented to his actions." He also praised the courage and bravery of the victim for coming forward and ensuring justice was served.

A spokesperson for GWR confirmed that McMurray was immediately removed from duty and no longer works for the company.
