Teenager and Woman Charged with Weapons Offences After Hawkwell Assault

Two people, including a 17-year-old boy and a 51-year-old woman, have been charged with weapons offences following a serious assault in Hawkwell, Essex, that left one person injured.

What Happened in Hawkwell?

At around 6.50pm on Friday, 13 June, police were called to Clements Hall Way after two suspects reportedly assaulted a group of young people. One person sustained a serious leg injury and was taken to hospital, where the wound was confirmed as non-life-threatening and non-life-changing.

Essex Police swiftly arrested two 17-year-olds — one from London and one from Leigh-on-Sea — on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH). Multiple property searches were conducted, resulting in the seizure of weapons.

Charges and Court Appearances

  • A 17-year-old from Leigh-on-Sea has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon and remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Southend-on-Sea Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 16 June.

He has also been bailed on further suspicions of:

    • GBH

    • Attempted robbery

    • Possessing criminal property

    • Being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug

  • Debbie Pickett, 51, of Rayleigh Drive, Leigh-on-Sea, has also been charged with possession of an offensive weapon. She has been bailed and is scheduled to appear at Southend-on-Sea Magistrates’ Court on 14 July 2025.

  • The 17-year-old from London has been bailed until 23 August, following his arrest on suspicion of GBH and attempted robbery.
