In a recent court hearing, Roobin Jones, a 19-year-old resident of the Isle of Wight, has admitted to a series of offences, including a burglary in Newport and violations related to a Child Abduction Warning Notice (CAWN).
Details of the Burglary
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, 10 November, when Jones broke into a residential garage attached to a house in Chatfield Lodge, Newport. The theft included a motorcycle helmet. Forensic investigations at the scene later identified Jones as the perpetrator.
Court Appearance and Admissions
Jones appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 6 December, where he pleaded guilty to the burglary charge. In addition to this, he admitted to two counts of keeping away a child in care without lawful authority.
Child Abduction Warning
On 23 November, Jones had been issued a Child Abduction Warning Notice, which prohibited him from any contact with a vulnerable 17-year-old child on the Island. Despite this notice, it was found that Jones had been in the company of the child on two occasions – 25 November and 1 December.
Further Offences and Upcoming Sentencing
Jones, a resident of Culver Parade in Sandown, has also been charged with taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, driving without a license, and driving without insurance. These charges stem from an incident on 22 September, where he stole a car in Cothey Way, Ryde.
Jones is currently remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court for sentencing on 17 January 2024.
