Man jailed for 4 years after vicious attack

Bernard Cowley, aged 37 of Tyrells Way, Sutton Courtney, Abingdon, pleaded guilty to three counts of actual bodily harm at Oxford Crown Court on Tuesday (26/2) and was sentenced at the same hearing. Cowley was sentenced to four years and three months’ imprisonment. He was arrested on 11 November 2018 and charged on 22 November 2018. It is in connection with three incidents against the same victim on the 4 November 2017, 3 November 2018 and 10 May 2018. The victim, a woman in her thirties, was assaulted on three occasions at a property in Tyrells Way. She sustained cuts, a black eye, a broken nose, bruising across her body and around her throat. She required hospital treatment and has since been discharged. Investigating officer Detective Constable Martin Whaley of the Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit in Oxford, said: “The victim in this case was subjected to sustained and somewhat frenzied attacks by Cowley. “The lasting impact of these crimes cannot be understated. Not only do they leave physical injuries but often also result in lasting psychological ones. “I would like to thank the victim in this case for her bravery and support in this investigation. “I am pleased that Cowley will now be spending time in prison and I hope the victim can take some comfort in this and can begin moving on from these incidents.”
