A 40-year-old NHS worker tragically died after being struck by a car in Harold Hill, an inquest has heard.
Victoria Thorpe, of Tulip Close, was hit on Briar Road on February 13 and died the next day, on Valentine’s Day, at The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel.
An inquest into her death was formally opened at East London Coroner’s Court in Walthamstow on Thursday, February 27.
Details of the Incident
The Metropolitan Police were called to the scene of the crash at 7.30pm on February 13.
A post-mortem examination conducted on February 21 determined that Ms Thorpe had died from multiple injuries sustained in the collision.
Coroner’s officer Jean Smyth confirmed that Ms Thorpe was a ward manager nurse, though the specific hospital where she worked was not disclosed.
Police Investigation and Court Proceedings
The Met Police have launched an investigation into the incident, which remains ongoing.
During the hearing, Coroner Nadia Persaud stated:
“As there is an active police investigation ongoing, I’m going to give priority to the police investigation.
Richard Sharpe, 42, of Kidman Close, Gidea Park, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the incident.
