Over 50 Vehicles Stopped in Thanet Road Safety Operation

A major road safety operation conducted by Kent Police on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, resulted in over 50 vehicles being stopped and multiple offences being identified across Thanet.

Key Outcomes of the Operation

  • 50 vehicles stopped: Drivers were spoken to about the importance of responsible driving and vehicle maintenance.
  • 13 individuals reported for traffic offences, including:
    • Defective tyres
    • Incorrect number plates
    • Driving without insurance
    • Not wearing a seatbelt
    • Illegal window tints
  • 3 drivers reported for speeding.

Drug-Driving Arrest

A 36-year-old man from Margate was arrested on suspicion of drug-driving after officers stopped his vehicle on Princess Margaret Avenue in Cliftonville. He has since been released on bail pending further investigations.

Police Statement

Local Inspector Jim Woodward emphasised the importance of road safety, particularly during the festive season:

“Further traffic operations are being planned during the festive period, and people are reminded not to get behind the wheel if they have been drinking alcohol. They may also find they are still over the legal limit the morning after a night out, so make plans to use public transport or get a lift from a friend.

“Always ensure your vehicle is in a roadworthy state—regularly check lights, tyres, and brakes—and do not drive if you do not have the correct documents. During this season of goodwill, this is a reminder that everyone has a responsibility to keep the road safe for all.”

Kent Police plan to continue similar operations throughout the holiday period to ensure public safety.
