Portsmouth head quits following Coke convictions
The popular headmaster of a North End school finally quit his role last night, following a conviction for drink driving and possession of cocaine. Iain Gilmour, who admitted to Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court that he’d shockingly paid £200 for half a gram of cocaine with a street value of just £20, was head teacher of Isambard Brunel Junior School and in charge of a budget of millions. As previously reported, Mr Gilmour further admitted consuming three bottles of wine before being caught driving through two sets of red lights in Manor Road, Buckland, on Thursday 25th January – a school night. Mr Gilmour, who has a history of depression, spoke of battles with petty bureaucrats at the Thinking Schools Academy Trust – who even refused to close the school for half-a-day following the death of a teacher – that run the school, and the increasing pressure on teachers as financial cuts take their toll on the education system. Samantha Cox, deputy headteacher, will now officially replace Mr Gilmour for the rest of the term.
