Sandown Hotel in lockdown after man threatens to shoot guest

Armed Police from the Isle of Wight joint armed response roads policing unit placed the Cygnet hotel,Sandown in lockdown after a man threatened to shoot a fellow guest this evening. The former hotel on Carter street now operates as a guest house. Concerned staff contacted the police after the man made a serious threat to carry out the attack of shooting someone. Emergency services along with armed officers rushed to the premises in Sandown just after 7pm in Thursday evening. Armed officers entered the premises on the corner of The Broadway and spent sometime reasoning with the man. Others officers cordoned off the guest house and offered support along with the Islands dog unit and Paramedics from the Island ambulance service. The incident was successful brought to a close without injury. A has been spoken to by police. It is unclear if any weapons have been found. The cordon has since been removed and officers have now left the scene.
