Armed Police Lock Down Isle of Wight Guesthouse After Shooting Threat

Armed officers from the Isle of Wight joint armed response and roads policing unit swooped on the Cygnet Hotel in Sandown tonight after a man threatened to shoot another guest. The former hotel, now a guesthouse on Carter Street, was swiftly placed on lockdown.

Threat Sparks Police Siege

Staff raised the alarm after the man made a serious shooting threat. Emergency services and armed police flooded the scene just after 7pm on Thursday evening. Officers entered the building at the corner of The Broadway and spent time negotiating with the man inside.

Dog Unit and Paramedics on Standby

While armed cops handled the situation, others cordoned off the guesthouse, supported by the Isle of Wight dog unit and paramedics from the Island ambulance service. Thankfully, the tense standoff ended without any injuries.

Man Spoken To, No Weapons Confirmed

The man has been spoken to by police. It remains unclear if any weapons were found during the incident. The cordon was lifted, and officers have now left the scene.
