Two teenage brothers have been charged with attempted murder following a brutal machete attack on an off-duty Metropolitan Police officer in Luton town centre. The incident took place at 1:10 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, outside The Point shopping centre on George Street.
Hannan Mahmood, 19, and Humar Mahmood, 18, both from Belmont Road, Luton, were apprehended on Friday and subsequently charged with multiple offences, including attempted murder, wounding with intent, possession of a bladed article in a public place, robbery, and dangerous driving. The brothers were remanded in custody after appearing at Luton Magistrates’ Court over the weekend.
Emergency services quickly responded to the scene, where police cars and ambulances could be seen within a cordoned-off area near Luton town hall. The street, bustling with shoppers, was sealed with blue-and-white police tape as investigators conducted their work.
Police have issued an appeal for information and any footage of the attack to aid in the ongoing investigation. Witnesses or anyone with relevant footage is urged to come forward to assist Bedfordshire Police.
