Scrap Metal Scammers Caught Red-Handed in Kent

Two men have been nailed for carting scrap metal without proper licences in Kent. Armando Grecu, 26, from Ilford, and Valerica Cismaru, 52, from Erith, faced quick court action after being busted earlier this year.

Grecu’s Dartford Sting: £1,121 Fine for Illegal Scrap Haul

On May 14, Grecu was stopped in Dartford during a police operation on Mead Road. Without a waste carrier licence, he was hauled before the court on November 21. The judge slammed him with a £1,121 bill — including a £300 fine, £120 victim surcharge, and £701 costs.

Cismaru Caught in Sutton at Hone, Fined £420

Cismaru got caught earlier on February 12 during the same crackdown in Barfield, Sutton at Hone. Sevenoaks Magistrates Court fined him £420 for failing to hold the required licence.

Council Urges Public: Always Check Your Scrap Dealer’s Licence

Jeremy Kite, leader of Dartford Borough Council, warned locals to double-check before scrapping metal. “If someone takes your scrap for disposal, it’s vital you check for a waste carrier’s licence,” he said. “A simple check protects the environment and supports legitimate local businesses.”

He added: “Op Assist is a winning team effort between the council and Kent Police. Expect more convictions like these going forward.”

Kent Police: Environmental Crime Won’t Be Tolerated

Sergeant Molly Irwin underlined the crackdown’s importance. “These criminals damage our countryside, threaten legitimate businesses, and harm communities.”

“By taking action against offenders, we send a clear message: environmental crime will not be tolerated.”
