Wanted Man Arrested After Climbing Roof During Police Chase in Abbey Wood

A wanted man has been arrested following a dramatic police chase that saw him climb onto the roof of a building in uk/where/abbey-wood/">Abbey Wood. The incident began on September 14, when officers on patrol in Plumstead Gardens identified the suspect as wanted and attempted to arrest him.

The man reportedly fled from the police, leading them on a short foot chase before climbing scaffolding onto the roof of a building on Blithdale Road at around 11 am. Despite police efforts to coax him down, the man refused to leave his position, prompting the deployment of negotiators to the scene.

Emergency services responded swiftly, putting multiple cordons in place to secure the area as the situation unfolded. Negotiations continued for hours, while concerns for the man’s welfare also led to the involvement of the London Ambulance Service.

At approximately 11:30 pm, the man was safely detained by police. He was taken to hospital, where paramedics assessed his condition before he was taken into custody at a south London facility. He remains in police custody as investigations continue.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed the events: “On Saturday, 14 September, officers on patrol in Plumstead Gardens attempted to arrest a man, after he was identified as wanted. The man made off from police and, following a short foot chase, climbed scaffolding onto the roof of a building in Blithdale Road, Abbey Wood, at about 11:00hrs.”

The spokesperson added that the man was safely detained following hours of negotiation and was subsequently arrested and remanded in custody. Further details on the charges or reasons for the man’s “wanted” status have not yet been disclosed.
