Firefighters Tackle Blaze Near Newhaven Fire Station
Meeching Road in Newhaven was shut for hours on Tuesday, 19 August, after a serious fire broke out close to the town centre. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) scrambled four fire engines just after 8am to tackle the blaze, which was only 50 metres from Newhaven Fire Station.
Fire crews hauled out six sets of breathing apparatus, one main jet, a hosereel jet, and hooked up a fire hydrant to bring the flames under control. The blaze was fully extinguished by around 10am, when firefighters handed the scene over to Sussex Police.
Cannabis Grow Discovered Amid the Ashes
Police revealed that inside the burnt property, they uncovered a number of cannabis plants. Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the incident. Sussex Police have launched an investigation into the findings.
“Police are investigating after cannabis plants were discovered at the scene of a fire in Newhaven. East Sussex Fire and Rescue alerted police at 8.13am on August 19, after they were called to a building in Meeching Road. There are no reports of any injuries. No arrests have been made, and enquiries are ongoing.”
