Teen Throws Heavy Chair Over Westfield Balcony—Shoppers Narrowly Missed

A reckless teenager hurled a heavy chair over a first-floor balcony at Westfield Stratford shopping centre, almost hitting shoppers below. The shocking stunt was caught on camera, sparking fury across social media.

Shocking Video Catches Chair Toss Over Westfield Balcony

The dramatic incident was recorded on Snapchat and later went viral on TikTok. The footage shows a young lad struggling to lift a large blue seat before flinging it over the railing at the busy east London shopping hub.

A friend filming gasps, “There’s no way this guy’s doing this, oh my god.” Moments later, the seat plunges down, landing just inches from five unsuspecting shoppers below.

After the close call, the trio of boys – the thrower, the filmer, and a mate – flee laughing up an escalator. The chair-thrower then admits, “I can’t believe I did that.” The clip was captioned: “No way bro almost killed someone, Nahhh” with laughing emojis.

Social Media Outraged, Police Launch Investigation

Public response was swift and fierce. Many slammed the act as “attempted murder,” fearing what could have happened if the chair hit a child or elderly person.

  • “If there was a mother and a pram with her baby underneath, no one survives that. It’s attempted murder, and he should be found,” one commenter said.
  • Another added, “I’m imagining this falling on an elderly person or a toddler. That could have been fatal.”

The Metropolitan Police confirmed they are investigating the dangerous stunt, which took place Saturday, March 1, and was reported two days later.

Police and Westfield Respond

Inspector Dan Window from the Stratford Neighbourhood Policing Team said:

“Police are investigating after a heavy seat was thrown over a barrier from the first floor of Westfield shopping centre in Stratford on Saturday, 1 March.

The seating was reported to have narrowly missed members of the public below. Fortunately, there were no injuries.

The matter was reported to police on Monday, 3 March, and enquiries continue.”

A Westfield Stratford spokesperson declined to comment, saying the case is now with the police.

Authorities urge anyone who saw the incident or knows anything about those involved to step forward immediately.
