Man, 42, Dies After Stabbing on Jutland Street – Police Launch Hunt

Early Morning Attack Shocks Sunderland

Police were called out just after 3 a.m. this morning following reports of a stabbing on Jutland Street. Officers found a man in his 40s with serious chest wounds. He was rushed to Royal Preston Hospital but tragically died from his injuries.

Victim Identified as Lee Dawson

The victim has been named as Lee Dawson, 42, originally from Preston but living in Sunderland. Lee’s family have paid tribute, describing him as a “large and friendly giant” who “loved his children deeply and would do anything for them.”

“He had a strong heart as well as a strong head. Lee was a friend for life once he became one. He lived life to the fullest and will be sorely missed,” said a family member.

Police Appeal for Witnesses and Footage

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Haworth-Oates of the Force Major Investigation Team spoke on the case:

“These are very sad and tragic circumstances. Our thoughts are with Lee’s loved ones. Our investigation is in its early stages but a team of detectives is working hard to find those responsible.”

He urged anyone with information or CCTV footage from the Jutland Street area around the time of the attack to come forward. Increased patrols are now in place to reassure the community.
