Armed police officers arrested a man in Sydenham after reports of two individuals on a moped carrying knives sparked concern among residents.

The incident took place on Sydenham Road, SE26, at 4:02 pm on Friday, 28 February. The Metropolitan Police responded swiftly, deploying Armed Response Officers to the scene.

Within 30 minutes, officers arrested a male suspect on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. He was taken into police custody, where he remains as enquiries continue.

A police spokesperson confirmed:
Police were called to Sydenham Road, SE26, at 16:02hrs on Friday, 28 February, following reports of two people on a moped carrying knives. Armed Response Officers attended and arrested a man within 30 minutes on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in custody, and enquiries are ongoing.”

Authorities have assured the public that no injuries were reported. Investigations are ongoing
