A bonfire got out of control in Margate on Saturday night (10 May), spreading to nearby fencing and prompting a multi-engine response from Kent Fire and Rescue Service.
The blaze broke out in a garden on Mere Gate just before 9pm, leading to an emergency callout.
Crews arrived swiftly and used high-pressure hose reel jets to extinguish the flames. The incident was under control by 10:12pm, according to a fire service spokesperson.
Residents in Thanet took to social media to thank the fire crews and share concerns. One neighbour wrote on Facebook:

“The smell of smoke was strong – scary how fast these things can spread. Thank you to the fire crews who dealt with it.”
