UPDATED:Emergency services called to Godshill after an explosion

Emergency services have been called to an incident in Godshill this afternoon (Tuesday). Fire crews from Newport and Paramedics and Police are currently on the scene near to the Griffin Family Inn on the High Street following what is understood to be an explosion after a high voltage cable was cut through at private residence. Two fire appliances from Newport three police cars two ambulances have been sent to the incident. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight air ambulance have also been sent to the incident and landed in the nearby The Mead. Paramedics from the Islands ambulance service are treating one person who has been injured as a result of the incident after ‘an electric cable was cut through. He has stained serious burns and has been flown to Oddstock hospital in Sailsbury. Police closed the main road through the village in both directions Southern Vectis’ Route 3 buses are being affected by the closure. Southern Gas Networks and Scottish and Southern electric have also been called to the scene after the home owner is understood to have dug through the mains cable into the property. More to follow
