Fire rips through Portsmouth Night club

Fire crews have been called to Astoria club on Guildhall Walk, Portsmouth on there biggest night of the week. Five fire crews from Portsmouth,Southsea and Southampton are tackling the fire that started in the early hours of this morning(Wednesday). Crews have described the fire a very serious after a fire took hold in the ceiling and spread to the roof void. Crews spent just over two hours at the venue. Moment earlier hundred of clubbers were evacuated by the staff. There are no reports of any injuries. Fire bosses praised the door staff,management and the Police for the swift evacuation of the venue. Crews from Southsea, Cosham, Portchester and St Mary tackled the blaze using hose reels and jets a number of fire fighters where committed into the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation it is understood that the fire may have started on the dance floor after sparks from a performer using a disc cutter set the ceiling alight.
