Following The Recovery Of Two Bodies From Roadford Lake In Okehampton On Thursday Evening, June 9, 2022, Devon & Cornwall Police And The Marine Accident Investigation Branch Launched Parallel Investigations

The deceased, believed to be a man in his 40s and a woman in her 60s, were recovered from the lake on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, following an incident involving a capsized boat on the lake. There were no other boats involved in the incident.

Officers are currently awaiting formal identification of the deceased.

A third person, a woman in her fifties, is still in critical condition at Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital.

Devon & Cornwall Police is now in close contact with both the MAIB and the HM Coroner as the investigation, which is expected to be complex, moves forward.

This has been a tragic incident in which two people have lost their lives,” Devon & Cornwall Police Superintendent Toby Davies said.

We continue to provide support to all of the families involved in the deployment of specialist family liaison officers, and our thoughts are with those families during this difficult time.

“The parallel investigations will look into the circumstances surrounding the MAIB incident as well as ways to prevent a similar incident from happening in the future.”

“These investigations have already involved liaison with HM Coroner, and we anticipate that this will continue over the next week.”
