A yellow weather warning for ice has been issued across Kent as temperatures are expected to fall below freezing tonight. The Met Office alert is in place from 5 PM this evening until 10 AM tomorrow, Wednesday, November 20.
Icy Conditions Expected
The warning covers most of the county and the wider South of England. Forecasters have cautioned that icy patches are likely to form on untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths, creating hazardous conditions for travel and outdoor activities.
A spokesperson for the fire service said:
“Please take extra care on roads across the county this evening and into tomorrow, with low temperatures and icy conditions forecast.”
Kent County Council has confirmed that gritters will be deployed from 8:30 PM to treat roads, with temperatures predicted to drop as low as -3°C overnight.
Support for Vulnerable People
Medway Council has activated its Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) to support rough sleepers. The council is working with partner agencies to provide emergency shelter for those in need.
