In the former pit village of Grimethorpe, Barnsley, more than 100 homes have been evacuated after an Army bomb squad was deployed in response to a police operation. The tense situation unfolded after South Yorkshire Police established a 100-metre cordon around a property on Brierley Road, where “several suspicious items” were discovered during the execution of a warrant.

Residents in the affected area were swiftly evacuated, with authorities cautioning that they might be displaced for up to 48 hours. Barnsley Council opened a rest centre at St. Luke’s Church to accommodate households without alternative accommodation options. Emergency services have mobilized to manage the situation, ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.
