Merseyside Police are appealing for information following a reported gun incident outside the Al Rahma Mosque in Toxteth, Liverpool. The alarming events unfolded at around 2pm on Friday, November 22, as worshippers were leaving after afternoon prayers.
Incident Overview
Two men on bicycles rode onto Hatherley Street from Mulgrave Road, near the mosque. One of the men reportedly dismounted and ran toward two others outside the mosque, causing them to flee inside. Witnesses say the suspect pulled out a gun at the mosque’s entrance but did not discharge it.
The society highlighted growing concerns over knife and gun crime in the area and called on community leaders and authorities to prioritise addressing these issues.
Police Investigation
Merseyside Police has launched a full investigation, increasing patrols in the area and conducting house-to-house inquiries. CCTV footage is being examined to identify the suspects.
Detective Superintendent Steve Reardon stated: “This took place just as afternoon prayers were finishing, and it will have been really worrying for those who saw what happened. There is no place for firearms on our streets, and we will do everything within our power to find those involved and take them off the streets.”
