Six months after the launch of the “Right Care, Right Person” initiative, London has witnessed a significant shift in how emergency calls are handled, ensuring that individuals in crisis receive appropriate care from the most suitable responders. This innovative program, initiated by the Metropolitan Police in collaboration with the NHS, London Ambulance Service, and social care services, aims to direct health crisis calls to the right professionals, freeing police officers to focus on urgent criminal matters.

Since its inception on November 1, 2023, the scheme has led to a notable reduction in police deployments to health-related incidents, decreasing from 41% to 29% of calls. This change equates to 6,000 fewer police deployments and 34,000 hours per month that can now be dedicated to addressing crimes directly affecting the community.
