Beloved TV presenter Davina McCall has shared the joyful news that she is cancer-free following successful brain surgery to remove a 14mm tumour.
The 57-year-old revealed on Instagram today that a recent MRI confirmed the tumour had been fully removed, with no sign of it returning. McCall had undergone surgery last year to treat what was later identified as a benign colloid cyst, discovered during a routine health check connected to her menopause advocacy work.
“Benign Does Not Mean Fine”
In an emotional Instagram post, McCall wrote:
“So, here it is. Our final brain surgery update. Had the final MRI this week. @brainsurgeon.uk got everything out during surgery, it’s not coming back. Thanks so, so much to everyone at @onewellbeck and @clevelandclinic.”
She went on to thank her loved ones, including her mother, her partner Michael Douglas (@mdlondon), her “BFF Sarah,” and her children, for their unwavering support during her recovery.
“I am so so grateful particularly because I know a lot of people have inoperable tumours… I’m lucky to be able to draw a line under this and move on with my life when so many people can’t,” she said.
McCall added a powerful reminder:
“Benign does not mean fine.”
Outpouring of Support
The TV community and fans were quick to celebrate the news. Fellow presenter Rochelle Humes commented: “The best news. So happy for you x.”
Author Donna Ashworth added: “This is fabulous news,” while influencer Claire Hattrick wrote: “Just brilliant news! Sending you all a huge hug!”
Advocacy and Awareness
McCall has been widely praised for using her platform to promote women’s health and menopause awareness, including the health check-up that led to the discovery of her tumour. Her openness about her diagnosis and recovery has sparked important conversations about routine screenings and brain health.
Moving Forward
Now with a clean bill of health, McCall says she is ready to move forward, recognising the privilege of being able to do so.
“To @brain.surgeon.uk for being the GOAT. I’m just gonna say this one more time: Nothing comes between me and my @Garnier,” she joked, referencing a long-time brand partnership, showing her signature mix of honesty and humour.
