The family of Gaynor Lord, who went missing on Friday after leaving her workplace in Norwich, has slammed internet users for spreading baseless theories about her disappearance. The 55-year-old’s family, distressed by her absence, criticized the “unhelpful” and outlandish speculations circulating on social media platforms like TikTok.
A family member, who preferred to remain anonymous, expressed their frustration to the Mail, stating that such speculation adds to their hardship. The family’s anguish is compounded by theories ranging from a serial killer on the loose to police cover-ups and other unfounded claims.
Gaynor Lord was last seen on Friday, 8 December, around 2:45 pm, after she left her shift at the Bullards Gin counter in the basement at Jarrold department store, Norwich. The last CCTV footage showed her smiling as she exited her workplace. Her movements were tracked until around 4:01 pm, after which she mysteriously vanished.
The search for Ms. Lord intensified after her coat, mobile phone, glasses, and two rings were found near the River Wensum in Wensum Park around 8:10 pm on the night she went missing. Norfolk Police have deployed specialist deep water police divers from Lincolnshire constabulary, equipped with enhanced sonar equipment, to search the park’s water bodies.
Superintendent Wes Hornigold of Norwich Policing stated that they are releasing footage of Ms Lord’s last known movements to aid the public in helping to locate her. He emphasized the importance of any information that could lead to finding her.
The case has drawn comparisons to Nicola Bulley’s disappearance earlier this year. However, Norfolk Police have stated there is no evidence of third-party involvement in Ms. Lord’s case. The force urges anyone with information or who may have seen Ms Lord on the cathedral grounds or elsewhere in the city that afternoon to come forward.
Ms. Lord’s family is undergoing an incredibly stressful time, as emphasized by her half-brother Allan Weston. The police are providing support to the family and continue their extensive search efforts.
Anyone with information or who knows of her whereabouts is encouraged to contact Norfolk Police on 101, quoting incident number 427 of December 8, 2023.
