An 11-year-old girl who went missing after entering the River Thames has been named as Kaliyah Coa.

Incident Details

Police were alerted at 1:23 pm on Monday, March 31, after Kaliyah, who had been playing during a school inset day, entered the water near Barge House Causeway, E16. Emergency services, including the Metropolitan Police and other rescue teams, arrived at the scene within minutes and launched a large-scale search operation.

Search and Recovery Mission

Despite a rapid response and extensive search efforts, Kaliyah has not yet been found. The operation has now transitioned into a recovery mission, led by the Met Police, with a thorough examination of the area underway. Drones, boats, and specialist teams are being used to comb the river and its banks.

Chief Superintendent Dan Card, the local policing commander for northeast London, stated:

“Our specialist officers are supporting Kaliyah’s family through this deeply upsetting time, and our thoughts go out to all those impacted by what has happened.

“We are committed to finding Kaliyah and are working with partners to conduct a thorough search over a wide area – utilising drone technology and boats.

“I’d like to thank the members of the public, our first responding officers, and colleagues from other emergency services who responded rapidly during a highly pressurised and distressing time.”
