Three people were rushed to hospital last night after a black Toyota reportedly mounted the pavement and collided with pedestrians outside the Angus Steakhouse on Coventry Street, near Piccadilly Circus in central London.
The shocking incident occurred around 6:50 p.m., leaving bystanders stunned as emergency services arrived on the scene. Witnesses described a scene of chaos as the vehicle, which had reportedly ploughed through a line of rental Lime bikes, smashed into a street map sign before crashing into a building. The vehicle’s bonnet was crumpled, and airbags were deployed from the impact, with the front number plate left hanging.
Several people gathered around the crash site, capturing footage of the dramatic aftermath. The collision left the vehicle partially embedded on the pavement, close to one of London’s busiest tourist spots, and emergency responders quickly taped off the area.
An eyewitness recounted the horror, describing how two unconscious women had to be extracted from the vehicle by firefighters, who were forced to cut off a door to reach them. “There was a big crowd that gathered around the car. Everyone was so shocked. Two women were inside, and they had to be cut out,” he said. “They were both unconscious. Firefighters had to cut the door off. There were loads of ambulances and police vehicles.”
Reports from the scene indicated that a pedestrian was “flipped into the air” from the force of the collision and was seen lying on the pavement, “covered in blood.” Both the injured pedestrian and one of the passengers from the car were taken to hospital, while the driver, who sustained minor injuries, was also transported to the hospital as a precaution.
