British Transport Police (BTP) have launched an urgent appeal after a Tube worker was violently assaulted at Edgware Road Bakerloo Line station by a man attempting to jump the ticket barrier without a valid ticket.
Incident Details
The attack took place on Friday, 13 December 2024, at around 4.30pm. According to police, a member of railway staff challenged a man who attempted to bypass the ticket barrier without using a valid ticket.
In response, the suspect hit the staff member multiple times before pushing him to the floor and fleeing the scene.
Police Investigation and CCTV Appeal
BTP have now released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the assault.
A spokesperson for BTP said:
“Officers investigating the assault of a member of railway staff at Edgware Road Bakerloo Line station are today releasing this image in connection.
“Just after 4.30pm on 13 December, a member of staff challenged a man walking through the ticket barrier for failing to use a ticket. The man responded by hitting the member of staff several times and pushing him onto the floor.”
Public Appeal for Information
Anyone who recognises the man in the image or has any information about the incident is urged to contact British Transport Police by calling 0800 40 50 40 or by texting 61016, quoting reference 482 of 13 December.

Ongoing Concerns Over Staff Safety
The attack has raised further concerns about the safety of railway staff who frequently deal with fare evasion incidents. Transport unions have repeatedly called for stronger protections for staff working on the London Underground and National Rail services.
Police continue to investigate the assault, and increased patrols have been deployed across major Tube stations to deter future incidents.
