Police Seek Man After Covent Garden Assaults Leave One Victim With Life-Altering Injuries

The Metropolitan Police are appealing for information after two assaults in Covent Garden left one man in his 70s with life-changing injuries.

The incidents occurred on October 12, beginning near the Royal Opera House at 10:33 pm. Police were alerted by an off-duty officer who reported being punched in the back of the head by an unknown suspect. The officer was not injured.

Shortly after, the same suspect allegedly approached a second man in King Street, asking for directions before assaulting him.

Elderly Man Suffers Serious Injuries

The second victim, a man in his 70s, was pushed to the ground, sustaining a bleed on the brain. After temporarily losing consciousness, he required 15 stitches to the back of his head and is now suffering from life-altering injuries.

The two victims are not believed to know each other, and police have yet to establish a motive for the attacks.

Suspect Description and Appeal

The suspect has been described as:

  • White
  • Approximately 5ft 9in
  • Medium build
  • Wearing a black jacket

He was last seen heading toward Bedford Street.

Police have released a CCTV image of the suspect and are urging anyone who may recognize him or witnessed the incident to come forward.
