Speaking at a climate summit in Paris, Khan stressed that while national governments often lag behind, it is cities that are leading the charge on climate action.
“The success of our climate response means lives saved and homes protected,” he said. “Cities are acting decisively where national governments are failing to step up.”
Cities at the Forefront
Khan, who has championed policies like the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) in London, said urban areas are uniquely positioned to implement practical environmental policies that benefit residents directly. He highlighted collaborative efforts between major world cities, including London, Paris, and New York, as examples of how local leadership can drive global change.
