Portadown witnessed a concerning incident late on Saturday night, prompting an urgent appeal from the local police for witnesses and information. Detective Sergeant Stewart is leading the investigation into an assault that occurred in the Ormonde Street area just after 11.35pm.
Initial Reports of Stabbing, Later Clarified
The incident was initially reported as a stabbing, with the victim believed to have suffered a chest wound. However, subsequent investigations have revealed that the man, in his 30s, sustained facial injuries instead. Thankfully, these injuries are not life-threatening.
Altercation Leads to Assault
The assault is thought to have arisen from an altercation involving several men, during which the victim was struck with a weapon. The circumstances leading to this violent incident are still being pieced together by detectives.
Call for Public Assistance
Detectives are calling on the public for assistance. They are particularly interested in dashcam footage from drivers who were in the area at the time of the incident, as well as any mobile phone or CCTV recordings that could shed light on the events.
