Police in Worcester are seeking public assistance following an act of vandalism against one of the city’s beloved Worcester Waddle penguins. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, August 20, outside the Worcester sewage works on Bromwich Parade
Sergeant Sam Mott, who is leading the investigation, stated: “While the footage doesn’t provide a clear image of the suspects, we’re appealing to the public for any information that could aid our inquiry. We’re particularly interested in hearing from anyone who might recognize the clothing or mannerisms of the individuals involved.”
The CCTV footage also reveals that one of the suspects was filming the act of vandalism. Sgt. Mott added: “There’s a possibility that this footage has been shared on social media or elsewhere. If anyone has come across such content, we urge them to come forward.”
The Worcester Waddle, featuring penguin sculptures throughout the city, has become a cherished part of the community. The vandalism has caused significant distress among local residents.
“This incident has brought great upset to so many people in our community,” Sgt. Mott expressed. “Any information, no matter how small it may seem, could be crucial in helping us identify those responsible.”
