The stolen van was soon spotted, triggering a tactical pursuit that ended when officers brought the vehicle to a halt on The Fairway, Newhaven.

A roadside drug test revealed the driver was under the influence of cocaine.

Jailed for Theft, Dangerous Driving, and More

Shane Brett, 30, with no fixed address, was arrested at the scene. The very next day, he faced charges including theft of a motor vehicle, burglary other than a dwelling, dangerous driving, and driving without insurance.

He pleaded guilty at Brighton Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody. On 12 March, Lewes Crown Court sentenced Brett to 26 months behind bars and banned him from driving for four years.

Sussex Police praised their swift action for safely ending the pursuit and protecting the public from harm.
