Paedophile Jailed for 14 Years After Child Finally Speaks Out
A 44-year-old man has been locked up for 14 years after a brave young victim broke their silence about years of horrific sexual abuse.
Long-Term Abuse Comes to Light
David Newsom from Regency Close, Uckfield, was arrested on 18 November 2025. Police uncovered a shocking string of sexual offences against a boy that stretched back to 2017, starting when the victim was just 10 years old.
The abuse continued for nearly a decade, only ending one month before Newsom’s arrest. The very next day, charges were filed and he was held in custody following his first appearance at Brighton Magistrates’ Court.
Guilty Plea Seals Newsom’s Fate
On 7 January at Lewes Crown Court, Newsom admitted to eight serious offences. These included rape, four counts of sexual assault on a child under 13, and three charges of sexual activity with a child.
Newsom was remanded until his sentencing, and on 23 March, Brighton Crown Court handed down a hefty 14-year prison sentence.
Detective Praises Victim’s Bravery
“Without the victim’s courage in speaking out about the sexual abuse he endured, this could have continued unchecked,” said Detective Constable Nandi Luthuli, who led the investigation.
“The final offence took place just one month before Newsom’s arrest, bringing an end to around nine years of sexual abuse.
“Let there be no doubt – anyone abusing children will be investigated and held accountable.
“And to victims, we will listen to you. There is no shame in speaking out, and you should never feel you have to suffer in silence.
“The abuse cannot be undone, but this chapter is now closed. We hope the victim can now move forward and begin to heal.”
