A man has been locked up for 12 years after brutally raping a woman in a Brighton park.

Alieu George, 46, homeless and living with no fixed address, was found guilty of rape and sexual assault by penetration following a trial in December.

Disturbing Attack in Dorset Gardens

The terrifying ordeal unfolded on the morning of Sunday, 22 June 2025, in Dorset Gardens.

Witnesses spotted a man and a distressed woman together just after 9am.

  • Shortly after, the pair were seen on the ground, with George lying on top of the woman.
  • Three passersby, alarmed by the woman’s distress, immediately contacted police.

Officers from Sussex Police arrived to find the victim distraught, while George claimed she was his girlfriend. However, the 35-year-old woman later revealed she had been out for drinks when George coaxed her away from her group before leading her to the park and sexually assaulting her.

Swift Justice for the Victim

George was arrested at the scene on suspicion of rape and charged later that day.

He appeared at Brighton Crown Court on Tuesday (10 March), where he was sentenced to a total of 15 years—12 years behind bars plus 3 years on extended licence. An indefinite restraining order was also slapped on him.

“Alieu George preyed on the victim and he presents a clear danger to women,” said Detective Constable Daisy Alden.

“The streets of Brighton and Sussex are safer now he will remain behind bars.”

“We are committed to ending male violence against women. We urge anyone affected to report offences online, call 101, or dial 999 in emergencies.”
