Fake Police Officer Incidents Near Maidstone Spark Safety Concerns

Alarming Police Impersonation Cases Reported in Maidstone Area

Recent police impersonator incidents near Maidstone have raised serious safety concerns among local residents. Kent Police has launched an investigation following two separate incidents where drivers were stopped by individuals falsely presenting themselves as police officers.

Details of the Concerning Incidents

The first police impersonation incident occurred around 11:30 PM on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. A female motorist and her passenger were traveling between Kingswood and Chart Sutton when they encountered a suspicious vehicle. The impersonator’s car flashed its headlights before displaying unauthorised blue lights, prompting the woman to stop.

Quick-Thinking Response Prevents Potential Harm

The situation became concerning when a man approached the stopped vehicle with a flashlight. The alert driver noticed two additional occupants in the suspect’s vehicle and, discovering they weren’t legitimate police officers, quickly departed the scene. She promptly reported the incident at a nearby service station.

Second Police Impersonator Incident

In what appears to be a related case, another motorist experienced a similar police impersonation attempt near Chartway Street, Sutton Valence. The incident occurred near a local golf club, where an individual conducted an unauthorised vehicle inspection before allowing the occupants to leave.

Law Enforcement Response

Inspector Rob Dell of Kent Police issued a statement regarding the police impersonator incidents: “While these actions may have been intended as pranks, they represent serious concerns for public safety. The experience would be undoubtedly frightening for anyone involved.”

Investigation Details and Public Appeal

The ongoing investigation has identified the suspect’s vehicle as a VW Golf, with CCTV images now released to the public. The primary suspect is described as having blonde hair and a slim build.
