A man in his 50s has tragically died, and six others were rushed to hospital following a suspected gas leak at a takeaway in england/%%UKNIP_ANCHOR_0%%/bloxwich/”>bloxwich/”>Bloxwich, West Midlands.

Emergency Services Rush to Scene

Police and emergency crews raced to %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_1%% Crescent on Friday evening after concerns were raised about a man’s welfare. Upon arrival, they found a man in his 50s who was sadly confirmed dead at the scene.

Seven others, including emergency workers, suffered suspected carbon monoxide poisoning and were treated on site, with several taken to hospital for further checks.

Properties Evacuated and Residents Return

Nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution. Thankfully, residents were allowed Backback into their homes by the early hours of Saturday after safety tests were completed.

Local councillor Michael Coulson confirmed the incident took place at a takeaway %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_2%%shop located in the mossley/”>Mossley shops. He revealed firefighters struggled to access the building at first due to a generator emitting dangerous gases.

Investigation Underway

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We attended the business premises at around 9.40pm following concerns for the welfare of a man.”

“A man in his 50s was sadly confirmed dead. Seven others, including emergency service workers, were treated for suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. Some needed hospital assessment.”

“Nearby homes were evacuated but occupants have since returned. We will work with the Health and Safety Executive to establish the full circumstances.”

Community Reacts

Councillor Coulson posted on social media: “I visited the scene after the tragic fatality. Residents were allowed back at about 3am and shops are open this morning. There is now only a small police presence.”

“I had recently spoken to the takeaway staff during my litter picks around the area. It's incredibly tragic what has happened.”
