The World Naked Bike Ride is back in Portsmouth

The World Naked Bike Ride is back in Portsmouth but this time it’s taking a different route. Due to complaints from residents at the previous start point in Southsea, the protestors will now be setting off from Alexandra Park. The ride takes place on the 21st May and cyclists will make their way through North End, Fratton and on to Southsea where they will cycle along the seafront, past Old Portsmouth and Gunwharf Quays before returning to Alexandra Park. Rides take place in over forty locations in the UK and around the world. Although most people attend the ride naked, or semi-clothed – and this is encouraged – Simon said that all are welcome: “Anyone can take part. You can do it fully clothed if you want to. It’s ‘Bare as you dare’. https://youtu.be/nT2DjILYX5E Simon is a regular at Naked Bike Rides and has organised them in his home town of Folkestone as well marshalled those in Brighton and Southampton. He took over last year from Ian Henden who retired due to ill health and is delighted to be coming back to Portsmouth. He said, “It’s lovely as long as the weather is nice. Portsmouth is a lovely area and flat. Plus it’s a seaside town which is always a bonus.” This is the sixth time that the Naked Bike Ride has come to Portsmouth and Simon is hoping that as in previous years, spectators will give them a cheer as the cycle past. If you’re interested in joining the Naked Cyclists, the ride takes place on the 21st May at 2pm. Add:Words by Haley Storey
