World Naked Bike Ride Strips Down to Alexandra Park in Portsmouth
Portsmouth’s famous World Naked Bike Ride is back on May 21 – but with a twist. After complaints at its Southsea start point, organisers have shifted the kick-off to Alexandra Park.
New Route, Same Bold Message
This year’s ride will pedal through North End and Fratton before cruising along the Southsea seafront. Cyclists will pass iconic spots like Old Portsmouth and Gunwharf Quays, finishing back at Alexandra Park.
Organisers Cater to All Cyclists
Simon Terry, the ride’s organiser, said: “We decided to do the right thing and move to another area.” He stressed the event goes beyond nudity.
“Anyone can take part. You can do it fully clothed if you want to. It’s ‘Bare as you dare’,” Simon said.
Simon is a seasoned pro, having organised Naked Bike Rides in his hometown and marshalling events in Brighton and Southampton. He took the reins last year from Ian Henden, who stepped down due to ill health.
Portsmouth’s Flat, Seaside Charm Is Perfect for a Ride
“Portsmouth is a lovely, flat area by the seaside, which is always a bonus,” said Simon. This marks the sixth annual ride in the city. He hopes crowds will cheer the riders on as usual.
If you’re up for a cheeky cycle, meet at Alexandra Park at 2pm on May 21. Get ready to bare it all—or not!
