Anaesthetist Sentenced for Child and Adult Sexual Offences

Dr. Edward Finn, a 36-year-old anaesthetist, has been sentenced to an extended 12-year prison term after pleading guilty to a series of sexual offences involving children and adults. The sentencing took place at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, June 28, 2024.

Finn’s crimes spanned several years, occurring between July 2015 and November 2023. His charges included:

  1. Sexual Assault of a Child: Finn admitted to sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13 by touching.
  2. Indecent Photographs of Children: He faced three counts of making indecent photographs of children and three counts of taking indecent photographs of children.
  3. Voyeurism: Finn was charged with two counts of voyeurism. One related to an unknown woman patient at Derby Royal Infirmary in July 2015, where he secretly recorded images beneath her clothing without her consent. The other voyeurism charge involved an adult known to him.

The court imposed an extended sentence of eight years in custody and a four-year extension. Additionally, Finn is now subject to the following orders:

Detective Constable Sarah Clarke, from Nottinghamshire Police’s public protection unit, commended the victims for their bravery and resilience throughout the investigation. She emphasised that Nottinghamshire Police takes all reports seriously, regardless of the alleged perpetrator.

Judge Michael Auty KC praised Detective Constable Clarke’s thorough and dignified investigation. Detective Chief Inspector Paul Lefford, Nottinghamshire Police’s children’s public protection lead, assured the public that there is no evidence of wider offending in this case.
